Description

The National Agency for Qualification and Professional Education (ANQEP) aims, in accordance with sectoral and national policies, is making the profession civil construction plumber reference more attractive by changing the framework.
Activities considered important in the development of the profession were introduced, with regard to the use of new products, sustainable construction and issues of safety & health at work.
A scholarship of trainings of a specific nature are introduced, which are the basis for a possible career move and opportunity to specific jobs, as well as techniques for personal development, business creation and the search for the first job.

Results of the project/initiative:
Developed new training materials and updated existing courses to include information on new
sustainable products and materials

Skills Gaps:
Identified gaps in the learnings for plumbers and changes were made to the curriculum for the use of
new products, sustainable construction and issues of safety & health at work.

Mis-Matching of Skills:
In the previous framework, activities were detected that are no longer applicable due to the
development of the construction industry, even though there is a lot of activity in Portugal in this fie

Skills Shortages:
Update the plumbers trainings to encourage the young (men and women) to enter the profession in a
highly active field.

Recommendations

Training:
Changes to the trainings and direction on site were made for the use of new products, sustainable
construction and issues of safety & health at work, personal development techniques, business
creation and looking for the first job.

Career Moves:
Promoting the profession is very important and its attractiveness is also important. The Plumber must
know that he is a crucial professional in the infrastructure of any project.

Mobility:
Very important in the development of a plumber's professional life.

Entrepreneurship Opportunities:
There is a high demand for plumbers from construction companies so upskilling and keeping on top
of the new technologies is essential to provide a quality service.
