Description
The CCCA-BTP worked in partnership with the company ENVIRO PLUS to sensitize the VTCs to the impact of paint rejected into the environment, and then to design, in collaboration with them, washing fountains for painters’ tools corresponding to their needs. The company used basic materials diverted from their primary function and available in France to create the washing fountains.
ENVIRO PLUS also designed handheld washing fountains in every size, which can be used on construction sites.

Phases:
Phase 1: ENVIRO PLUS designed the washing fountains in accordance to VTCs´ needs for pedagogical and circular economy purposes at a competitive price (5225€ for a washing fountain, and 600€ annually for maintenance).
Phase 2: the CCCA-BTP will launch a call for proposals for finishing trades (including painting) regarding circular economy, within which it will be possible to fund innovative equipment, including washing fountains. The objective is to equip at least half of the VTC’s (about 80) by the end of the project.

Aim
In France, 100% of water sources are contaminated with titanium, which makes the paint opaque. The aim is to reduce this contamination rate by designing washing fountains for painters’ tools, and by spreading their use within the construction sector.
Outcomes
Results of the project/initiative:
VTCs stop emptying their tanks filled with water and paint into the sewer system, and no liquid is rejected (closed system).
Impacts/Outcomes 2:
The learners, future professionals, adopt the use of washing fountains as a new practice respectful of the environment and circular economy principles.
Impacts/Outcomes 3:
VTCs save time cleaning tools of apprentices in painting, as the device was designed to be used by 20 apprentices at the same time.
